George Lois was an impact-creating impresario. As photographer/art director for Esquire magazine covers in the 60’s he used the venue to comment bitingly on the relevant moral issues of the day as well as create some stunningly clever cover portraits with the leaders, literati and glitterati of the day. As The New York Observer has commented…”The magazine industry continues to drool over George Lois’ infamous covers in the glory days of Esquire magazine, before all editors and art directors gave up and just put Tom Cruise on the cover month after month after month.”

See this gallery of his covers with personal anecdotes and critical commentary.
